Description
The BS170 is a N-channel enhancement mode MOSFET widely used in low-voltage and low-current electronic applications. It operates as a voltage-controlled switch, making it easy to interface directly with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi.
This MOSFET supports a drain-source voltage of up to 60V and a continuous drain current of approximately 500mA, making it suitable for small loads such as LEDs, relays, sensors, and signal switching circuits.
Built in a compact TO-92 package, the BS170 is easy to use in breadboards and prototyping circuits. It features high input impedance, meaning almost no input current is required at the gate, which makes it very efficient for digital control systems.
The device offers fast switching performance and low power consumption, making it ideal for applications where speed and efficiency are important. It is commonly used in low-side switching configurations where the load is connected to the positive supply.
Although it is not designed for high-power loads, the BS170 is very popular in hobby electronics due to its simplicity, low cost, and compatibility with logic-level signals.
